HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
-MONDAY. JULY 2nd. The Committee met at 7 p.m. Present : Mr A. 0. Armstrong (Chairman), AJ.esdames J. H. Wilson and Garnet Perry, Messrs AY. Shannon, AY. E. Richards, 11. R. Sweney and J. Conning (lion, sec.) An apology for absence was made for Air Pedcler. '1 he minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INAYARD CORRESPONDENCE. The Chairman reported on the deputation to the High School Board, asking for further assistance, when a grant of £3(l was made.—Received. It was resolved to thank the Board for the grant, the Chairman stating that the Board were meeting tho Committee very fairly out of the funds available. The Chairman reported in regard to the proposed picture display not to take any action.—Approved. From Miss Reid, applying for an extension of leave for one week.—Received and request grantee). From School Committee, AA'ood.stock, asking for particulars of clinic expenditure, stating a visit of inspection of the dental officer would he appreciated. —Received; Secretary to supply particulars asked for.
From Education Board Christchurch, stating request for repairs had been forwarded to the Coast foreman lor attention.—Received.
The Visiting Committee (Messrs Armstrong and Richards) reported on conditions at the School as satisfactory, stating some small requirements for which an estimate was being, obtained; that a further 2GO loads cf sand was being obtained, and after being levelled it would be sown in grass.— Received and approved, grounds committee to deal with estimate. The Rector (Mr E. Partridge) reported the attendance was satisfactory, the average for the past four weeks in the primary .being 273, 175, 175, 178 and in the secondary 04, 93, 93, 9G. The average for the past quarter was 275. G primary and 93.5 secondary. The fuel fund contributions were coining in free-ly,-and a substantial sum should be available at the end of the month. Suggestions were invited for the Fair, which it was proposed to hold in September. A proposal had been received from Ashburton for an interchange of scholars’ visits and had been referred to parents for their consideration. There was a possibility that Ashburton may visit here at the end of the month, arriving on a Saturday and leaving early on Tuesday morning.— Received.
It was resolved to approve of the Fair being held on the same lines as last year.
A suggestion made that the elder scholars should be taken to the hatchery at Lake Kanieri was referred to the Chairman, Rector, Treasurer and Secretary to deal with. Mrs Wilson and Mr Sweney were appointed visitors for the month. Accounts as tabled were passed for payment. The Committee, rose at 8 p.m.
