A BRUTAL CRIME. SYDNEY. July 1
Late la.st night two masked men drove a motor cycle to a confectionery shop at Marriekvillo, kept By Mrs Sarah Falvev and her sister. Miss Vaughan, both elderly, and attempted to rob the till. Tho women screamed. whereupon one of the men drew a revolver and "shot both of them. Mrs Falvey was killed instantly and Miss Vaughan died in the hospital. A number of people in the vicinity heard tho firng and saw a man with a smoking revolver running from the shop, hut were unable to capture them.
Wireless stories vary, some stating that there were two men, and others only one.
Robbery was apparently llio only motive for the crime.
A CLIFF TRAGEDY (Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY. July 2. A woman’s ha tiered and lifeless body was found at the foot of n cliff at Little Cqpgee. The police are of opinion there has been foul pla.v. She was about 27. ’named Monica Holly, and liven with August Kelly in a rough hut nearby. He told the police that he believed she fell over tho cliff of seventy feet, during the week-end. Tinpolice are investigating.

(Received this day at 8.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 2. The Federal deficit is likely to bo three and a quarter .millions Sterling. Tt is the first deficit since AllPage became Treasurer, five years ago. The State deficit will he between a million one hundred and a million two hundred, which is four hundred thousand less than Mr Bavin estimated some months ago. Smith Australian Government’s financial year closed with a deficit of £277.126.
A substantial deficit is expected by the Victorian Government.
SAFE BREAKERS CAUGHT. SYDNEY, July 2
Two safebreakers were caught rodhamlcd at the Post Office at Camperdown, a suburb. Constable Fogarty and a niglitwatchman heard a muffled explosion, when the safe- was being blown. They burst into the building and at the point of a revolver commanded the .men to surrender. They were in the act of Wowing: up a strongroom door when arrested. Hundreds of letters were torn open and scattered on the floor.
GUILTY OF MURDER. -MELBOURNE, July 2
At the re-trial George Gordon was found guilty of the murder of Clements (cabled on 19th .May) and was sentenced to death.
