LONDON, July 1. The French mine death roll is 53,
TRAGEDY AFTERMATH. (Received this day at 11.25 a.m.) LONDON, July 1. Sixty thousand coining from the neighbouring district lined the village street of Hettonlchole, where many familes are bereaved, while flower covered coffins of nine women victims of the Darlington disaster were carried to the little church. A guard of honour composed of members of the 51 others Union solemnly saluted the coffins in tho churchyard. There were a thousand mourners. The Vicar, the
Reverend F. Smith, wliosc wife is still hospital with another of the in.iurer, thevsole survivors of the whole party of seventeen, conducted the scrI vice. Women’s suh.s resounded through ft the church and many collapsed with r emotion. There were pitiful scenes , at the cemetery where three were buried in one grave. Neighbours and friends have taken charge of twentyfour children.
