The Foreign Secretary, Sir Austen Chamberlain, was asked in the House ot Commons whether, in view of the Polish Foreign Minister’s recent declaration that future guarantees must bo negotiated before the Rhineland is evacuated, he would give an assurance that the Government does not contemplate the granting ot further guarantees to the Government ol Poland in connexion with the evacuation of the Rhineland.

Sir Austen replied that the Government had repeatedly stated that this country could not give further guarantees, or increase the obligations, which it bad taken by the Covenant of the League and the Treaty of Locarno.
