Unusual features marked in the Magistrate's Court to-day,Nihon Gilbert Hamilton McMeckijig was charged with selling adulterated milk. Defendant stated that a sample was taken on Alay Bth, and that ho did not take control of the farm until Alay 13, although lie had received profits from the sale of milk for three days prior to the sample being taken on Alay Bth. He was learning the round, and ii was not until he took over lhe farm that 1m learned the cooler was defective. The Magistrate: “It- seems to me that in law there has been a breach of the statute, because milk, was sold which did not comply with the standard.’’ Defendant came within the meaning of .Section 7 ol the Sale of Food and Drugs Act (1921), in that he was a person who, not being the owner, was in possession of food with the concurrence of the owner, us it he vote in fact such agent : “ but 1 think all the. merits arc in favour of defendant. He agreed to buy the farm, but «as not. in fact, in control of it. Tt seems to me it would be a hardship to convict defendant, and 1 do not propose to inflict, that hardship upon him.” The charge was dismissed.

AIOTHEB’S SUICIDE. CARTERTON, June 29
A sad suicide occurred at Carterton to-day, Adelaide Annie Wallis, wife of D. B. Wallis, painter, being found hanging over the end of a bed. Deceased laid suffered from ill health for some time past, and though depressed. gave no sign of suicidal intention. Her husband had been away all the week. The children went to school as usual, returning home at dinner time. John, aged nine, found his mother dead.
Deceased was aged 18. and leaves a family ol live, aged from Hi years to 5 years.
HUE'S FUNNEL FALLS. ■HAMILTON, June 29.
The funnel of the river steamer Rawhiti was blown over in a gale today. A member of the crew. Frank Joyce, aged 19. of ATercer. was crushed beneath the funnel, and was injured in the hack and pelvis. He was sent to hospital.

hoard of health. WELLINGTON. June 29. In addition to granting the application of the AVellington City Council to proceed, with the drainage and water supply. ihe Extensions. Board of Health at its last meeting dealt with two other similar applications. Tlie Christchurch City Council as:tod the Board to issue requisitions enabling the Council to proceed with the reticulation of a high pressure water supply in Bromley, a Cliri-stchurch suburban district, at the cost of C 0.300. The application was supported by the Medical Officer of Health. The Board resolved that;! the requisitions bo issued.
The Invercargill Borough Council wrote stating that the sewerage system and water supply reticulation proposed for South Invercargill, would cost iMo.OSS and armliod for a requisition. The Council ids;) asked the Board to issue a rcquistioii enabling the Council to relay the outfall of the Borough drainage system, at an estimated cost of £3.270. It was resolved that further consklerath.n of the matter be deferred; that Dr NT. H. Watt. Deputy-Direc-tor-General of Health, conduct an inquiry on the: spot, and that the Chairman (Hon ;J.
