PARLIAMENT

WELLINGTON, June 23
The third session of the twenty-sec-ond Parliament was opened this afternoon by the Governor-General in the presence of a large assembly of members and the public, the latter being induced to come out to witness the ceremony by unusually fine weather. The speech to members of both Houses was read by His Excellency in the Legislative Council chamber after which short sittings of both Houses were held.
tin the Legislative Council, IT on. Barr, who had been re-appointed, was sworn in. The re-appointment of Sir Thomas MacKcnzie was announced in lijs absence. The Council then adjourned till 10 a.m. on Saturday, when the Imprest Supply Bill will be considered. In the House only formal business was taken. Mr Waite (Clutlia) gave notice of his intention to move a respectful address be presented to His Excellency in reply to his speech. Mr IT. E. Holland (Leader of the Opposition) gave notice of his intention to move an amendment to the Address-i n-Reply. Mr T. K. Sidey gave notice of his intention to introduce the Summer Time Bill.
On the motion of the Prime Minister the Expiring Laws Continuance 'Bill was read a first time, pro forma.
At 3.23 p.m. the House rose till 2.30 to-morrow, when Imprest Supply Bill No. 1 will be introduced.
