STATEMENT TOR MAY

The following particulars of the loan transactions of the Public Trust Office and new business reported during the month ended 31st May, 19:28, have been supplied by the Right Hon. the Prime Minister.

The amount paid out in settlement of new loans was £242,411. Further new loans were granted to the amount of £82,979, and the total new loans now awaiting completion is £403,931, while offers of loans less than the full amounts applied for amount to £210,345—a grand total of £074,276. Applications for additional new loans amounting to £344,175 are now under consideration.

The new business for the month has been exceptionally good, estates of a value of £700,000 being reported and accepted for administration. The value of the estates reported in April and May of this year show a 33 1-3 per cent increase over the value for the same two months in the previous financial year. On 31st March last the total value of estates under administration was £44,155,548, and since then for the months of April and May a total value of new estates amounting £1,243,263 has been accepted. A total of 513 new wills appointing the Public Trustee executor were deposited for, safe custody with the Public Trustee by living testators, and the total number now held is 58,821 —representing an estimated present value of £235,000,000.
