SUICIDE IN GAOL.
CHERBOURG, May 15. John Kroeplin, a. traveller from South America, who was detained at Cherbourg last autumn on the complaint of one of liis partners, who charged him with fraud, committed suicide in Cherbourg Prison to-day. When he was arrested he was found in possession of jewels valued at nearly £IO,OOO, which he was taking to Spain. He was interrogated this morning by the examining magistrate, and on his way back to gaol in the prison van he told another prisoner that “all was lost.” He had no sooner been put back into his cell than he swallowed the contents of a -pliial of prussic acid which he had concealed in his clothing. *He died within five minutes.
