The honour given to Miss Mary McLean, for twenty years principal of Wellington Girls’ College, is especially interesting in that it is, we believe, the first bestowed upon a woman teacher. When n few years ago Mr Firth, of Wellington College, and then Dilate Mr Tibbs, were honoured, the. thought of many was that such recognition of the place of the teacher in society was rather belated. It is time that the head of a girls’ school was similarly honoured, and a better choice could not have been made than the woman who presided so long and wisely over Wellington Girls’ College.
