(By Telegraph—Per Press Association. TRAMP PELTS .MOTORS. CHRISTCHURCH, Juno 23. Resenting the comparative affluence of those who passed him in motor cars, Francis Dooley, who was tramping the road, work (ess and penniless, registered his resentment by throwing stones at the cars. He was charged before Air Mosley, S.M., to-day with being a rogue and a vagabond. He was sentenced to six months’ gaol. Dooley had a record of convictions extending, as tbe magistrate, said pretty well all over New Zealand.
ARCHBISHOP JULIUS AND WIRELESS. CHRISTCHURCH, June 23. “ What is the church for if it is not to broadcast tho gospel of Christ ? If the people are too lazy to come to church, surely we would be doing the right thing in taking tbe church to the people.” Thus spoke Archbishop Julius at the .Cathedral yesterday, when lie extolled the virtues of the wireless broadcasting of services. The Archbishop also prophesied that only a short time would pass before services from most churches were put on the air. “ The broadcasting of religious services is an innovation,” said tho Archbishop, and the Church with its conservative outlook always shrinks from new ideas, and yet why should we not broadcast? At present wireless still is in its infancy, but to-morrow it will be doing great things in the education of the world.”
BODY FOUND. GISBORNE, June 25. The body of a station hand, George Campbell, aged 65, who lias been missing for a week on tbe Hiurua Station, was found by a search party lying near his horse, which was hitched to a tree. Deceased apparently alighted feeling ill, and covered himself with If coat. DUNEDIN, Juno 25. The body of the boy, seven years of ago Clifford Henry James Hovno, last seen playing on the wharf with a companion on May 17, was washed up at Macandrews Bay yesterday. FOUND DEAD. DUNEDIN, June 25. Jack Cuttle, 23, employed as a porter at a hotel was found dead on the floor of his bedroom this morning. A post mortem is to !bc held. FACTORY BURNT. NEW PLYMOUTH, Juno 25. The Kalmi dairy factory near Rnhotu was completely destroyed by fire about midnight on Saturday. Tbe staff left evorthing safe early in the afternoon and the origin therefore is a mystery. Phoenix held a comprehensive policy of £4OOO over the building and contents which are a total loss. This is the fourth dairy factory burnt along the coast in the last four months, all being unaccounted for. POACHING OPOSSUMS. GREYMOUTH, June 25. James Smith was fined £4 with costs for taking opossums the day before the season opened. JOCKEY DISQUALIFIED. ROTORUA, June 25. The Judicial Committee of the Rotorua Racing Club heard a charge against C. N. Cannont (jockey) at Rotorua on June 22nd and 23rd and found:—‘That Carmont was a party to a conspiracy that Dress Circle should win the Poliutu Higliweight Handicap on February 11th, 1928; that Lady Ciritra should win the Tarn we ru Higliweight Handicap on February 13th, 1928; and that Carmont be disqualifitd under the Rules of Racing for twelve months from this date.”

MOTOR DRIVER FINED. AUCKLAND. June 23. Clive Horace Parr, aged 28 years, was fined £25 by Mr F. K, Hunt, S.AL, in the Police Court, for being intoxicated while in charge of a motor cars in Karangahapo Road late yesterday afternoon. Sub-Inspector P. J. McCarthy stated that while passing a vehicle on the ,-H,t the accused had gone so near the edge of the footpath that he had knocked over a woman who was standing on the kerb waiting for u tram The Woman had not been ser-iously-'injured, and had been sent to her home. Accused had got out of his car and had walked hack and spoken to her. He returned to bis car, and was driving away when he was stopped and asked for his license It was then noticed that he was intoxicated. Counsel for the defence sanl accused had yesterday afternoon motored in from Kawhia, and had only had two drinks. He was on his way to Avondale when the accident happened Parr was a reading contractor, working in the neighbourhood of Kawhia. He had to drive a motor lorry in the course of the work. The Magistrate said he.would take the latter fact into consideration, ana would not cancel the accused’s Rre,ism He warned him .not to come before the Court a second time, and to lea drink alone. . Accused was allowed a week to pay.
COURT OF APPEAL. AVELLINGTON, June 2.,. The Court of Appeal commenced its session this morning. In the absence of tho Chief Justice, who is stilt confined to the hospital, Justice Sim is acting Chief Justice. The other Judges in attendance are Reed, Ostler, Blair and Smith. . . The Court granted an application to strike John Henry Victor Mansill, ol Auckaml, off the roll of practising soliAttention was drawn to the fact that Alansill had recently pleaded guilty to several charges of theft and one of forgery. 'Mr A. R. Meek appeared for Auckland Law Society, which was allowed fifteen guineas costs. At the opening session of the Court of Appeal this morning, AU A. Gray, K. 0., representing New Zealand Law Society, referred to the recent death of Sir John Hosking, a former Judge. He gave a resume of the life of tho late Justice Hosking and mentioned the- qualities which had made him such a.n able Judge, and earned him the respect and esteem of members of the bar. Air H. F. Johnston (Wellington I-aw Society) spoke in similar terms. It was mentioned that Chief Justice Skerrett would probably be able to take up Ill’s duties in a few days. DAIRY SHOAV. PALMERSTON N., June 25. The National Dairy Show which con eluded on Saturday evening was a most successful fixture. The gate takings for the five days were £2,004, compared with £I,BOO the previous year, a record for a winter show as well as for any other show of the Alanawatu Association. The previous record Was £1.813 for the Royal Show in 1926.
