NEW STEEL FOR CARS.
PARIS, April 14. . A revolution in the motor-car and aeroplane engine industry is f° re shadowed by the perfecting of a new type of" umwearable steel, which is being applied to the cylinders of roototor engines. The secret of t o steel’s hardness is a treatment by ammonia, which gives it.a surface that cannot he filed. ' After '22.000 miles running the cylinders of the ordinary motor-car show a high degree of wear and tear, but cylinders made of tlie new ammonia' steel show only 2 per cent usage in a like test. The consumption of oil is less than one-tliird of that in the ordinary motor. In the case of an aeroplane the life of the engine is. it is claimed prolonged greatly.
