THE DAIRY BOARD

A LIVELY MEETING.

' PALMERSTON N., June 20.

The National Dairy Association confernoe continued' all day. Addresses were giyen by Mr Singleton (Director of the Dairy Division), Professor Riddet (Massey Agricultural College), Dr Reakew (head of the Agricultural Department), and Mr Grounds (chairman of the Control Board). The last-named sought to show that

i the Control Board could yet profitably market produce at Home, and accomplish other things which would justify the continuation of its existence. He referred to the action of Mr Goodfellow in resigning, stating that the board could run along better without him. Mr Grounds added that lie had been aware of intrigues on the board, and efforts made to gag him so that he could not make known what was events unting. He .suggested that the resignation had been Tin effort to stampede the industry. There never was a time when the united strength of the producers was needed mare than at present to meet the difficulties confronting them. Merchants had no love for the hoard and no doubt hoped they would continue as Kilkenny cats to their extermination. Be-establish-ment could lie secured by the board undertaking marketing for all factories that desired it. He felt that those who understood the situation wanted him to continue in office.

At question time the meeting became uproarious, Mr lorns and Mr Fulton, hoard members, asking pertinent questions. The chairman (Mr Morton) said he considered that Mr Grounds had not crossed the line of fair criticism. Mr S. A. Broadbelt (Levin) proposed approval of the action of the hoard chairman, and support of his policy, Mr Mugridge (Auckland.) dec'a red that Mr Grounds was the only true cooperator on the lioard, and made insinuations against Mr lorns that brought many delegates to their feet. Mr lorns asked for the withdrawal of me statement. Mr Mugridge refused. An amendment, that Mr Grounds ho accorded a vote of thanks was carried.
