CRICKET

Australian Press Assn.—United Servire (Received this day at 9.30 a.m). LONDON, June 17. S In the Test trial cricket at Lords, Rest of England in the first innings made 307 (Jardine 48, O’Connor 48, Staples not out 38, Nichols 38). Play was not reassuring, the howling being unconvincing. The wicket was dead after Thursday’s rain. Larwood was the only successful man with the ball though such a pitch did not suit him. Six wickets were down for 133 and then Ames and O’Connor added 71 in forty-five minutes. England’s fielding, except Chapman’s, was ordinary. Hobbs made his first appearance since he tore his leg muscles ten days ago, but the exertion of fielding before lunch renewed the trouble though he hopes to hat on Monday.,
