The annual meeting of the AVi'stlaon Progress League takes place at the County Chambers to-night at 7.30 o’clock.

A reminder is given of the dance in the Koiterangi Public Hall this (Alonday) evening in aid of the funds of the local Tenuis Club. Complete arrangements have been made for an enjoyable gathering.

A meeting was held at the Courthouse, Hokitika, on Friday last of the owners of the Greymouth Native Reserve. Mr King, acting as Native Trustee, presided over the meeting. After hearing Mr King on tho subject, there was a unanimous vote against the sale of the reserve to the present lessees.

An outbreak of fire occurred at the residence of the Al.arist Brothers, in Alexander Street, Greymouth, about 10.15 o’clock yesterday morning. Tho Brigade turned out smartly, and within a comparatively brief period the fire was extinguished. The outbreak was due to a defective chimney, and was confined to a room in the tipper storey. Tho damage was mainly duo to smoke blackening the walls. All the furniture was removed within a few minutes after the fire was discovered, and was not damaged.
