BASKETBALL.

On Saturday a Girls’ Basket Ball team from Ruatapu school visited Ross and played against a team from the Ross school. The local team proved to he superior and won with a substantial margin, the result being 28 points to I I. Miss Joyce Denia made a capable referee. FOOTBALL. 1 The Rimu junior team met the Ross juniors on the recreation ground on Saturday. As the Rimu team is the only one so far to have beaten Ross this season, the many eager football enthusiasts rolled up in force, the gate takings being a record. In the fiist half Rimu had the best of the game, the result at half time being Rimu 11, Ross 3. In the second half Ross woke up and played a dashing game easily outclassing their opponents, adding another 9 points to their score, the game resulting Ross 12, Rimu 11. For Rimu S. Ogilvie, Howat and Comport scored tries, O’Connor converting one. For Ross, Adam and N. Ingles got over the line, neither try being converted, and Ableson kicked two penalty goals. Mr A. Cutbush made an excellent referee., A BALL.

The ball which is being held next ■Wednesday evening under the auspices of the Ross Football Club promises to be a very successful function, quite a number of outside clubs having promised to be fully represented. The hall is being specially prepared for the occasion, while the music is in the hands of Miss Evans’s orchestra. Given a fine night it is expected there will ho a record attendance.- The proceeds are to he set aside as a fund to assist injured players.
