AIR VISIT. CHRISTCHURCH, June 15

Referring to the visit of the Southern Cross to Christchurch, Mr Climie (Progress League Organiser) said Wigram Aerodrome was tho best landing place in the Dominion. and added that the Southern Alps would show up well out of the Tasman Sea. They would be the first land tlie aviators would see when approaching. There could not be a better landmark. Mt. Cook especially on the right. Their ordinary flying height would tie about eight thousand feet, and that would clear the range. Tlie Alps presented absolutely no obstacle to aviators. Westport was aliout the nearest point to the route between New Zealand and Melbourne and was in a direct line between Melbourne and Christchurch. If visibility was poor, the aviators would fly lower, and would naturally steer a course a little north of the /Southern Alps. Wellington would present greater obstacles, owing to the fact that Trentham was hemmed in by fairly high hills. If the wind was unfavourable, some difficulties would be presented in landing such a large machine at Trentham.

The Minister of Defence lias not yet received official notice of the intended flight. Tlie Paparua County Council is improving the road that leads from the. main highway to the- AA igram Aerodrome, in view of the possibility of large crowds visiting the aerodrome.
