WELLINGTON, June 13.
Advice has lieen recived that Leota, the Mu chief, whose arrest was resisted on May 28th. last, was tried in the High Court of Samoa on May 30th. on a charge of resisting arrest. In sentencing him to three months’ imprisonment| his Honour said it was obviously necessary to show by way of example that such resistance must not lie made. ITe accepted the representations of counsel for the defence that, the sentence should be educative rather than punitive, but in future be said, the sentence for such conduct would not he light. If the present penalty were found to lie not sufficient to prevent resistance, he would have to increase the sentence in the next case which might come before him.
