(United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.- 'Copyright.) ' SAMOA. NELSON REFUSED HEARING. . GENEVA, June 13. A secret meeting of the League Mandate’s. Commission was. held to day when the Conimission was informed that the Hon Mr Nelson, from Samoa, had attempted to see one of the members with the view of submitting a petition. The Commissioi agreed that no member should see Mr Nelson and that the Commission would not permit him to appear before it. SLATER’S APPEAL WITHDRAWN. LONDON, June 13. In the High Court in Edinburgh, where Oscar Sinters was condemned to death on the charge of murdering Miss Gilchrist in 1909, an appeal was begun against bis conviction. SI ate i was set free after he had served 18) years of his sentence. Slater now states that as he will not be allowed in the witness-box, he has resolved to withdraw the appeal. Sir A. Conan Doyle says “Slater is terribly disappointed. I think his brain is about turned by all he lias gone through. He imagines, there is a conspiracy. I tokl him it uas a foolish action.” Slater’s solicitors say they have no knowledge whether the appeal is to proceed.
