“REVOLT IN THE DESERT.”
Colonel Lawrence’s book “Revolt in the Desert,” is enjoying a remarkable ami continued run of success, as is shown by tiie heavy sales of the new American edition, for which local booksellers are experiencing a steady demand. In a letter received last week by a Wanganui book enthusiast, from a firm of London booksellers, the English editions, now long out of print and rapidly becoming scarcer, are quoted at £8 for the original 30s issue, the de luxe £5 5s copy being priced at £3O. “Seven Pillars of Wisdom,” Lawrence’s first book, of which “Revolt in the Desert ” is really an abridgement, was sold at Sotheby’s (London) recently for £SOO. At the same' sale the manuscript of “ Alice in Wonderland ” was sold to an AmericanMor £20,000. Efforts are now being made to keep the manuscript in Britain, by means of public subscription. If this is successful, it will be housed in the British Museum.
