EDUCATIONALISTS PR OTEST.

WELINGTOX, June 6.

“AVe might as well be wiped .out of existence, if we are treated in this manner,” declared Air J. R. Kirk (Gisborne), at to-day's meeting of the Council of Education. He was asking about the deletion from the order paper of some remits sent forward about the new syllabus He said that the Council bad not been directly represented on, the Syllabus Revision Committee. It- bad been simply ignored, which .showed the view held of it by the Department of Education.

The Assistant Director of Delucation Air A. Bell, who was in the chair, said there were four of five members of the council on the Revision Committee. There having been no intention to slight the Council, be suggested that the Council should go on to the next business. Air Kirk: “Well I have uttered my protest. AVe were not directly represented. Wc were ignored and should not have been.” (Hear Hear).

SCHOOL BURNT DOWN. CARTERTON. June 7

A lire last night completely destroyed the school at Pirinoa. AVhen discovered the whole building was a mass of flames and it was impossible to save anything, there being no lire brigade. The structure was razed to the ground.

At the Supreme Court Henry Patrick Aloore was sentenced to three years gaol and declared an habitual, on six charges of bouse breaking and theft. Aloore who was a, scissors grinder went from bouse to bouse pretending to he deaf and dumib. Judge Adams said it was necessary to protect tbo public from the deprodiat.ions of such men. Prisoner bad been previously convicted in Auckland, Palmerston North and Napier.

Burgess is a married man. separated from his wife. He now lives with his mother in Spreydon.

A DIVORCE CASE. NAPIER, June 7

Recent happenings in a house in Carirell Street, Napier, led to the case of divorce heard before Mr Justice Ostler and a jury in the Napier Supreme Court this morning, when Thomas Alfred Sunnex petitioned for dissolution of marriage from Ada Florence Sunnex, naming Thomas O’Dowd as co-respondent, claiming £250 damages. A decree nisi, to he made absolute in three months, with costs on the highest scale against the co-respon-dent was granted, with the amount of damages claimed.
