FOOTBALL.
WESTLAND SUB-UNION.
A special meeting of the Sub-Union was held last evening to arrange matters in connection with the seven-aside tournament on Cass Square on Alonday next. There were present:—Alessrs H. M. Coulson (President), F. McGregor, J. P. Coulson, A. Cutbush, J. J. "Wallace, D. R. Dowell, R. AlcDonakl, S. Moore, H. D. McU anna way and E. AY. Heenan.
The following committees were appointed : Fixtures.—Alessrs D. "Williamson, R..‘ AlcDonald, J. J. Williams, and E. \Y. Heenan. Timekeepers.—No. 1 ground, Air A. AY. Yarrall; No. 2 ground, Air F. -McGregor. Referees Appointments.—Alessrs H. At. Coulson and D. R. Dowell. Gates.—AFr H. 1). AlcAlannaway, Treasurer. Alegaplione Steward.—Air Sid Brooks. It was resolved to ask the Racing Club for use of scales. It was resolved to start the tourney at 5.30 a.m. with bantams, shrimps, and third grades, junior games at 10 a.in., senior games at 1 p.m.
Tho Committee to meet at 7.45 a.m. on Monday, June 4th. The Committee decided to wire off the end of the ground between the two playing fields and also to ask for the assistance of tho police in keeping the grounds clear. It was resolved to procure two small size footballs for tho shrimps and bantam games. All teams taking part must be ready to take tho field five minutes before starting time. Tho following citizens donated bandsome trophies for the tourney:— Tooliev Alotors, a beautiful silver cup for the senior grade. Hunter Rose Bowl for the junior grade.
Devnney Cup for the third grade. Kortegast Bros., Jusfrute Cup for shrimp grade. Coulson Cup for bantams. Air AA T . Haybittle, two silver medals to be presented to the best player in each of the two final teams. Selectors to judge and make awards. It was resolved to tliank all the donors for their handsome gifts, also to have all trophies at the ground and present same at the conclusion of the tnurnev.
The trophies will ho on view in the window of Air D. R. Dowell’s shop in Revell Street.
SATURDAY’S GAMES. SENIORS. Kiwis v. Excelsiors, at 3 p.m. (Mr A. Cutbush). JUNIORS. Rimu v. Kokatahi at Kokatahi (Mr At. AY all ace). THIRD GRADE. School v. Arahura at Hokitika at 1.30 p.m. (Air A. Perry).
The senior game set down for Cass Square to-morrow is between Kiwis and Excelsiors. AA'licn these teams met last the result was a draw. Unfortunately that was a very rough and unsportsmanlike game and it :s Imped that to-morrow's piny will display hotter football. The game should provide an interesting tussle, and it is to ibc hoped that any attempt at rough play will he promptly penalised.
'l'lie following is the Excelsior seniors to play Kiwis to-morrow at 3 o’clock:— Stevenson, Preston, Bannister, Dougherty, Freitas, Barron, Cunningham, A. King, O’Brien, Houston, J. King,' Christenson, R. King, Eambcrton, Nightingale.
The Kokntahi team to play Rimu on Saturday, June 2nd, is as follows:—F. Cutter, B. Morel, J. Monk, It. Woolhmouse, V. Pawson, S. Fleming, J. Webster, S. Ilnvill, 11. Pearson, McMiim, J. Hagan, F. Schist, A. Stopfortli, A, Morrison, J. Marshall. Emergencies: E. Morris, G. Mclntosh.
