OTTAWA, May 30. ■'“■'-Correspondence between the Governments of Canada and of Great Britain on tlie Anglo-Egyptian treaty has been tabled in the Canadian House of Commons.
The Premier, Mr Mackenzie therein gives the reasons for the Canadian Government’s action in declining to become a party to such a treaty. The Premier says: “We could not contemplate recommending Canada to participate in its ratification and .signature.” It is observed in this connection that “It was His Majesty's Government of Great Britain which directed the policy as to its relations with Egypt, which negotiated the present draft agreement; and which is to administer the provisions and the annexes set forth in the. treaty. We consider that, were the issue to be raised as to the assumption by Canada of military obligations in Europe or in the Near East as it inevitably would were the Canadian Government to recommend entering into a military alliance with Egypt—-it would be prejudicial to the relations between Canada , and other parts of the Empire, as well as to the interests of Canada itself.”
