X.Z. STATE BUSES. WELLINGTON, May 30. In view of the expansion of the Railway Department's road transport facilities, it has been decided to appoint a Manager to the sole charge of the Department’s bos services for the whole of the Dominion. The Prime Minister announced today that the jiosition had been filled by the appointment of .Mr J. Carnachnn, of Palmerston North, an officer with a long and varied experience. The stated object of the new arranypment is to place the control of the Department’s bus service on the same footing as would apply were they being conducted l>y private enterprise. The services must necessarily be elastic, and it was therefore considered desirable not to try to put them in with the ordinary departmental machinery. The decision to appoint a Manager to control the service is regarded as a clear indication that the Department is out to meet the public requirements in every respect.
