They include the construction of a tram and traffic tunnel through the eastern hill to the suburb of Kilbirnie, 22r7 feet in length, with new roads to connect at an expense of £317,000 for the main works alone. On the other side of the city, a new road across the hill is proposed, the widening of Tinakori Road all the wny to Karori cemetery and another road with a tunnel of ,500 feet to connect Am Street with Tinakori Road. These works would cost £ll-1.000. In addition, the purchase of the existing Kelburn tram is recommended, with a view to duplicating it, in order to provide for increased traffic, or. as an alternative, the construction of a cable-tram from a point in Willis Street to the same terminus as Kelburn tram is suggested, but the cost is not stated.
