AMUSEMENTS.

EVERYBODYS PIGTURES. "HEAVEN ON EARTH”—'TO-NIGIIT There is only one girl who could have played the part of “ -Marcella ” in ‘‘Heaven on Earth,” the Aletro-Gold-wyn-Mayer picture which comes to tho Princess Theatre to-night, and she did. That girl is Renee Adoree, who has risen to he a prominent personage in tho motion picture world, since her never-to-be-l'orgotten portayal of " -Melisande ” in "The Big Parade.” In the new picture, .Miss Adoree takes her audiences through a veritable avalanche of emotion from comedy to tragedy, blending and shading each scene with an understanding that betrays the true artist. Her “Marcella” is one of tho screen’s most vivid portraits. Conrad Nagel has never done better work than he does in the role ol the young man who revolts against Ids life being planned by others. He skilfully paints the soul struggle of a man who has been brought up with everything that money can buy at his disposal, and the result of his being suddenly thrust into a world that does not understand him. Gwen Lee, one ol the most beautiful of the younger screen players, is seen as Nagel’s fiancee, and gives a charming and natural portayal. Julia Swayne Gordon, Marcia Manon and Pat liartigan also have prominent parts in the exceptionally well-chosen cast. Phil. Posen. the well-known director of ‘‘Abraham Lincoln,” directed "Heaven on Earth,” and his masterly handling of the story is evident throughout tho entire production. A special feature to-night will he a gazette showing latest news and views of New Zealand. Also in supports Cartoon, Comedy and A\ orld’s News.
