VULTURE HITS AEROPLANE. NEW YORK, April 3. The vultures that hover in flocks over the valleys of Nicaragua are proving more dangerous to the aeroplanes of the United States marines operating against the guerrilla hands of General Augustino Sniulino—the Liberal (or rebel) leader—than are the bullets from the rifles of the Nicaraguan marksmen. Capt. William C. Byrd and SergeantRudolph were descending towards a field at Esteli, in the area in which Sandino is active, when one of these huge birds struck their machine, tearing out a strut of the left wing. The wing collapsed, and the aeroplane, which was at a height of about 250 loot, crashed to the ground. The occupants tried to scape by using their parachutes, but were too near the earth and both were killed instantly. A few days ago another United States aeroplane narrowly escaped a similar fate.
