SATURDAY’S RESULTS.
SENIORS. Excelsiors 19, Stars (3. Kiwis 14, Uniteds 14. JUNIORS. Excelsiors 26, Araliura (). Ross 6, Ivokatahi 3. Rimu 6, Kiwis 0. THIRD GRADE. | School 6, Excelsiors 0. EXCELSIORS V. STARS. This senior game played on Cass Square on Saturday afternoon resulted in a win for Excelsiors by 19 points to 6 points. The game was an exceedingly' poor one. In the first half Excelsiors were oil the attack throughout, but the play was of the poorest. Stars got, tlio ball in the scrum almost every time due to the Excelsior front rankers kicking it through. Throughout there was exceptionally poor handling, an exception being Brown a Star five-eighth who was in the picture all through the first Half. Half an hour had gone before a Red rush saw the ball go to the Stars corner where Lamberton got over to score a try which was not enhanced. Almost immediately the play went to Excelsior quarters, where a had cross kick in front of the posts gave a chance to Fong who snapped the ball and went over to score a clever try that Caulton failed to improve. This was the only occasion that Stars got to Excelsiors quarters in tho spell.
In the second half there was a little more dash shown, but the Excelsiors when in possession had n kicking mania that did not give any advantage and with numerous knocks, on spoiled the play. Only on half a dozen occasions did they get away in passing rushes and in nearly every instance a score came. A nice passing movement saw several handle and Houston, went over near the posts, the try being converted thy King. B—3. Then Stars attacked and irom a free kick near the side-line Caulton made a tine attempt the'bull striking tlio cro.ss-bar and rebounding into play. Brown almost immediately after marked but his place was rushed down. Then Excelsiors got away and from a nice movement Mawxell scored. King missed the shot at goal. ll—3. Fong showed up twice in succession and then play went, to the other end where a passing run ended in Maxwell scoring again and Stevenson converting. 16—3. Flay went to the other end and from a penalty C’aulton kicked a nice goal. 6—lo. The scoring was completed after a forward rush, hy Barron scoring after a smart dash and Stevenson missing -the place, the score was 19 to 6. There was no further s*-ore hotore time was called.
■Stars, with the exception of Brown. Reynolds, and Fong in the hacks and Caulton and Bring in the forwards gave a very poor display. The Excelsiors were not much hotter their game throughout except for about half a dozen bright, flashes being of a most uninteresting nature. Mr Keenan was a very successful referee.
EXCELSIORS LI V. ARAHURA N. 'i'll is game was played on No. 2 ground, and resulted in a win for Excelsiors by 26 points (8 tries, one being converted) to nil. Tn the first half three tries were scored, while in the second half a further five tries were- added, one being converted. The scorers were Herring (4). Glover. Gay, Wright, amt Palmer, while Hughes converted one. Mr Williamson was referee.
KIWIS V. UNITEDS. At Victoria' Park, Uniteds and Kiwis met. the game finishing with honours even, both sides scoring 14 points each. The game was interesting from tlio commencement until the final whistle. First it would look as though United would win, then Kiwis would draw up even with them, and for a spell they would appear winners. So the game progressed, giving to the large number of spectators ample opportunity for working up enthusiasm, until at the end neither team had to how to the other, and they left the field, after furnishing the Greymonth public with the best game so far played this eaon.
Tn the first half Uniteds scored 8 points, AL Jamieson sen .ng and Walton converting, while Jenkins kicked a fine penalty goal. For Kiwis Tainui scored an unconverted try.
Tn tlio second half Hagai* scored from a forward rush and Tainui converted. Then McDonald scored for United putting them three points ahead. Then from a penalty Tainui kicked a goal making the stores even. Then United attacked and scored a try, Ratlibnn getting over at the corner. A pretty passing rush saw Pfaldert. score and the teams were again even. There were no further scores and the game ended in a draw 14 points each. Air Winchester was referee.
KOK AT AIK V. ROSS. Ross Journeyed to '.Kolcatqlhi on Saturday and proved successful defeating Kokatalii hy 6 points (two penalty goals) to 3 points (a try). Air Oufinish was referee. EXCELSIOR 111 V. SCHOOL. The third grade match Hokitika School v. Excelsior HI resulted in a draw 6 points each, the lighter school hoys making an excellent showing against the older players.
