LONDON, May 20. There wi.3 a surprise in the finals ol men’s doubles at Surbiton, Spence and Lyeett defeating the Davis Cuppers. Crolo and Keis Fames after a hardfought match 7-5, 7-5. In the Davis Cup singles at Copenhagen, M.atejka (Austria) beat Petersen (Denmark) 8-5, 8-0, 5-7, 2-0. 0-1. Artcns (Austria) beat Ulrich (Denmark) 0-4, 0-4, 3-0, 9-7. Austria eliminated Denmark by 1 to 1 in the second round. In the women’s doubles semi-finals, Mrs Watson and Miss Rennet boat Misses Fry and Collier 5-7, 0-1, 0-3. In the mixed doubles quarter-final, Cochet and Miss Bonnet heat T’hurneyssen and Madam Lafanric 0-4, 0-4. Hunter and Miss Wallis beat Tunbull and Mrs Lyeett 0-4, 0-4.
In tlic men’s doubles quarter-finals, Borotra and Brugnon beat Boyd aim Robson 0-2, 0-3, 0-3. OTTAWA, Wav 20.
A message from Kansas City states Hennessy (United States) defeated Gordon Bum (China) o—3,0 —3, o—l, o—o. in the first singles in the American zone for the Davis Cup.
