ROSS NEWS.

Tlio many friends of Mr S. P. Evans, Mayor of Ross, will regret to hear that ho has not been keeping tlio best of health lately. However these hist, few days he has been improving and it is hoped that we will see him about in a few days again.
A plain and fancy dress ball was held at Matainui on Thursday night last and was a social success. Miss Evans’ orchestra of Ross supplied the music. The liest ladies fancy dress (Shamrock) was won by Miss Brown of Matainui and the host gents by Mr G. Hevoldt (Father Ninas) of Tho Forks. The dance terminated at 3 a.m.
Miss R.. Mitchell who has been spending a short stay here lias left for Christchurch. Miss- B- Ryan who has been spending a holiday with friends in Addington, Christchurch, returned to Ross on Thursday evening. Mr H. E. Holland and Mr O’Brien arrived in Ross on Friday evening and spent the night at the- City Hotel. They left for South on Saturday and intend returning to Ross on Wednesday next.
.Miss S. Flaherty and Miss Moore of Greymonth, arrived in Ross last evening and are staying at the City Hotel.
