GAME OF POKER. NEW YORK. April 5. A game of poker in a Bronx flat ended tragically last night, when one of the players committed suicide after his wife beat his “straight” with a “full house.” John Taber, a millinery salesman, was not enjoying good cards when he 1 suddenly found he had a “ straight.” He began betting on his hand until the pot grew to a respectable size. One by one the other players dropped out. leaving Taber and his wife as the sole opponents. Taber smiled at his wife, crying, “Straight: you can’t beat that.” “ Full house,” she answered, and broke all the rules of the game by throwing her cards among the discard on the table. Her husband was angry and a quarrel ensued. Then Taber left the room and in a moment the assembled party heard a loud crash of broken glass'. They rushed into the adjoining room and looked out of the window. On the pavement below lav the body of the disillusioned guest, John Taber.
