Mr Page, S.M., to-day convicted several defendants and ordered them to pay costs for driving unlicensed cars or with driving without drivers’ licenses. He said tlmt M.r Luxford’s decision at Hamilton was not a subject of appeal. Mr Luxford bad dismissed tlie eases under tlie Justices of tlie Peace Act and under tlie section in question a decision was not subject to appeal. Mr Page said that it was clear from the statute that a license was annual. The Act specifically said that a license was to lie applied Inland issued annually. There was no power to grant thorn for a longer period. The contention for tlie defence conflicted with both flic spirit and the letter of the statute.
