The first whitebait of the season, about a dozen, were caught in the Hokitika river this morning.

Tlic Programme for the Competitions to be held in August is now available, and may he obtained from Mr A. M • Varm 11, Mr .1. King Stationer, or any member of the Committee. The sections are practically the same as in former years with some additions. In the jmenile elocution section an own selection recitation and a phivettc item have been added. In U ie open elocution section the test recitation. and the own selection recitations have been divided into two sections, one for tlie ladies, and one for the men and a pincette item has also been added. In the dancing section a character dance for a trophy generously provided by Mrs Hannan of Greymouth has been included. The standard set throughout is a little higher than formerly, and the interest- already evinced angers well for - as successful a festival as in previous years. <" The most effective specific for colds and coughs is “ Naaol.” A few drops taken on lump sugar will give instant relief.
