I By Telegraph—Per Press Association. INQUEST VERDICT. GISBORNE, .May 21. Death due to fatty degeneration of the heart was the verdict returned by the Coroner in the ease of George Miller, aged 00, a farmhand found dead in bed at Matawai.

A motion was discussed by the Harbour Board protesting against the system of flat rate for freight from all pints of New Zealand, and setting up a committee to go into the question into its full bearings, Mr Mitchell, the mover said 'Wellington was being unjustly penalised to make up the loss on other ports, and a million yearly was being lost. What was the use of safe and modern wharves and facilities provided here, when wo had to pay for the risks taken in dangerous harbours and roadsteads elsewhere, .
Other speakers supported and blamed meat and dairy hoards for the system. It was said, however, that the National Dairy Association had arranged a fiat, rate before those bodies came into existence.
One member, Mr Tlirroil. opposed clniiijing generally that Wellington was doing very well as it was and a great cost would he incurred for additional wharves and sheds. Xotliiinj: like a million would lie saved. He was going on to say that Mr Mitchell wanted to concentrate ships into two ports but tin: latter denied ho had ever said such a thing. Some members thought it better to omit that part of the motion pro-, testing against a fiat rate, and the motion was carried with this deleted.

At Dillon’s Point this morning the bodj of TTarrv Ferdinand Lnutour Huddlestone, aged 03, was discovered on file river hank by his wife. he having committed suicide by shooting himself in the fiiead. He liad -left the house a few minutes previously to bring in the cows and failing to appear his wife searched and made the tragic discovery.

Rev. Father Reginald Patrick Finn died suddenly last night at St. Patrick’s Presbytery. He complained during the evening ol feeling unwell, but chatted with fellow priests till 11 p.m. He then retired and was found dead in bis room this morning, the cause being heart failure. He was horn at Gisborne 12 years ago. and was ordained in Sydney in 1911. He returned from Sydney in 1027 to Ids parent's home at Tauraiiga.

WELLINGTON, May 2-1. ' Resolutions of the annual conference of The New Zealand Alliance were placed before the Premier. Hon. 0. .1. Coates, and the Minister of Health. Hon. J. A. Voting, to-Tlay, bv a deputation of some hundreds strong. The speakers asked for a bore majority on a two issue ballot paper ; the introduction of the Licensing Bill early in the coming session, mid that it he given a free passage. Rcplving Hon Coates said he considered'it his duty to enable Parliament again to consider the question and confessed nervousness lest prohibition if passed should not he fully complied with.
