OKARITO NOTES
The Elsie is expected shortly to load poles for Hokitika. A considerable quantity of poles are awaiting shipment.
Owing to the interruption of the main south mad by Hood damage, additional sea transport will he required for the carriage of heavy goods south via the port of Okarito.
Fair progress is being made with the road repairs necessitated by the flood damage. Tho deviation road at Waturoa is mnv made easily passable for cars.
South of AYailm a good deal ot road work is required, while the restoration of the AVaikukiipa bridge will he a considerable undertaking.
The dredging prospects for the benches immediately south ol Okarito are promising. As a result ol the successful boring additional dredging areas are being taken up. The attractive nature of the mining resources of the district "ill lead to more attention to this district in the immediaie future.
A quantity oi timber tor renewing bridges on the Okarito road is on the site? and the County bridge staff is expected here shortly to go on with the re-erection ol the bridges, which should put the road in good order.
