AUCKLAND, .May 22. ".Miss New Zealand" (Miss Dale Austin) received an enthusiastic welcome when she returned to Auckland by the Aorangi last Sunday. Next day she appeared .personally at the Strand Theatre with her two-reel Aletro-G-old-wyn-Alaver production “Aliss New Zealand in Alovieland.” Aliss Dale Austin has achieved, a greater success in Hollywood than any other winner of British Empire screen contests. After difficult tests she was offered a contract by Metro-Goldwyn-Alayer and worked in “The Actress”... (Norma Shearer), "Detectives” (Geo. Arthur), and Karl Dane’s “Diamond Handcuffs” (Eleanor Boarclnian and Conrad Nagel), and also "Polly Preferred" (ATarion Davies). Her crowning achievement was the A offer of the second feminine lead in Tim Alt-Coy’s production "The Bushranger,” (an Australian story). Yesterday. Air Henry Hayward, Chairman of Fuller-Hayward Theatres, _ received the following cable from Ale-tro-Goldwyn-Alayor. "Aliss Dale Austin lias upheld the highest traditions of Now Zealand hy reaching the world’s screen in creditable accomplishments.” Owing to tlie difficulties connected with the British quota for residential immigrants “Aliss New Zealand” could only stay for a limited period in America. Air Hayward, however, has recalled her to play the lead in Tindall Hayward’s New Zealand drama "The Bush Cinderella.”
