PETROLEUM AT MOTUTARA
OIL TAPPED AT 2000 FEET. The Blenheim Oil Wells Reclamation Company, which took over a bore at Alotutara, Taranaki, has had encouraging results. Through lifting the casing of the well it promises to prove a profitable one. The boro was originally put down in 1913 to a depth a little over 2000 ft, then oil was encountered. It was decided to deepen the bore, but although the drill went down to oOOIt, no further oil in payable quantities was met with. The manager of the new company, Ah- W. Huse, removed the casing down to the point where the oil was originally met with. Since then the company bus been getting quantities of first grade oil. It is now proposed to draw up the casing another 20ft, when hard stratum will be met with. Then the well will be cemented to stop the influx of water. The company has at present fourteen to fifteen thousand gallon's of crude oil in store, and' several thousands gallons have been transfen ed fi‘om tiu reservoir to one of the large tanks on the property. Tie present daily flow : s aboil-. lent barrels. Arrangements for the thorough testing of the flow will he completed within a month prior to deciding whether or not another well will ho sunk.
