In tlio middleweight Iboxing match for a- purse of £IOO, between Artie .Hay (IFnAti iig-s) and Ndlson McKniglit (Hamilton), Hay was awarded the verdict on a knock-out in the fourteenth round. A demonstration by tho crowd followed, men rushing round the ring and counting out the rfeferee.
Hay was well ahead on points, but the crowd alleged that the referee had been too hasty in counting AlcKnight out.
AlcKnight, interviewed later, said there had boon an unfortunate mistake and he would take the blame for it. He was quite strong and could have got up at three.
