A man passing a Chinese, Young Kee’s general store at Silkwood, near Innisfnil, noticed one of the rooms in disorder. He investigated, and found the mutilated bodies of Young Koo and bis son, M illie Cheong. aged IT years, with their heads battered to pulp, lying in a litter of wrecked furniture, giving evidence that a violent struggle had been made for their lives. The police have a difficult task in tracing the murderer, as heavy rain has obliterated all tlie tracks in the vieinitv of tlie store.
MAX SENTENCED TO DEATH MELBOURNE. 'Alay 19
George Gordon, thirty, has been convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of an elderly couple, storekeepers. near Bairnsdale, on February 16th. named Richard and Catherine Clements.
The pair were foully mmdeivd during the night, their heads being battered. Gordon lived in the neighbourhood. His clothes were bloodstained and bis finger prints were on a chest of drawers giving the chief clues to his arrest and conviction. Gordon’s defence was an alibi.
QUEENSLAND OIL BRISBANE, May VO. The Queensland Minister of Alines, ATr Jones, states that the first unit- of tlie petrol extraction plant is to be erected on the Roma oilfield shortly, and two weeks later the eyes of Aus tralin will be centred on Roma.
