LOVE'S WHIRLPOOL’’—TO-NIGHT
The lot of the actor is by no means an enviable one, to judge by the number of hardships he is asked to undergo in an effort to obtain realism lor the motion pictures. Take “Love’s V hirlpool,” to be shown at the Princess 'llieatro to-night, as an instance, 'ilie sequence of the story calls for a shipwreck m mid-ocean. The wreck could easily he managed by use of an old hulk and trick photography, but no camera in the world could ever be made to take the* forms ot humans rushing panic-stricken around the decks and leaping into the seething waters of the ocean. This was a stunt that simply had to be done by the actors themselves, so far out to sen went the company on a yacht, and there they enacted the most thrilling scenes of a panic-stricken crowd of passengers ever filmed. Boats capsized as they were being lowered over the side, their occupants, emptied nito the water, struggled around; others leapt into flic rngnig sea from llie sloping decks of the doomed steamer. Thrills galore in this remarkable picture—thrills that were made possible by the artists’ utter disregard for danger and hardships occasioned through the immersion in the bitterly cold water ol the ocean. In the part of the crook with a soul. James Kirkwood has a role that suits this well-known character actor. Lila Leo as Molly, the crook’s wife, is also admirably suited to the part. Others of the east include Madge Bellamy as Nadine Milton. -Margaret Livingstone as the maid, Robert Agnew as Larry Reagan, the crook’s brother; Edward Martindcl as Richard Milton ; and Mathew Bet's ns “ .Pinky ” Sellers.
