The total time taken was 70 hours 60 minutes of which 8 hours '2O minutes was stops lor petrol.* oil changing and refreshments, etc. The travelling time was therefore OS.t hours for 3001 miles—an average speed of 44.30 miles per hour over roads for three days and nights. Keen inclusive of all stops (petrol, meals, etc.) the average was 39.87 m.p.h. for over three days and three nights. This journey was made in the the Northern midwinter—February 3ril to oth—with mud, ice and snow. Even worse was the fog during each night’s travelling which reduced the speed to about 20 m.p.h. At one time hot coffee from Thermos flasks was used to melt the ice from the windscreen. During one hour only 22 miles was covered ; other individual hours saw over 60 miles covered. For the whole journey not a single mechanical adjustment was made—not a spark plug was cleaned—the fan belt bad no adjusting—the generator was not touched. The oil was changed twice. 3064 miles of road across a continent in midwinter snow, mud and fog, at an average of 44.80 miles per hour without any mechanical adjustments.—Advt.
