In the Commons Mr Amery in answer to a question if the statutory maximum expenditure under the Empire Settlement Act had 'been reached, said the statutory total would be L 16,806,343 to 31st March, hut the iietualj; expenditure vus £3.5C6,0G1. Mr Hcadlam in answer to a question said arrangements would he made for one of His Majesty’s ships to he off Middlesborough for the celebrations of Captain Cook’s bi-centen-ary in October.
Mr Hcadlam told a questioner that a contractor who recently supplied South American beef ns New Zealand, had 'been struck off the Admiralty list, but was eligible for, tenderers. There was no suggestion that the cold stores from which the meat was supplied wore in any way blameworthy.

In the House of Commons, the Labour member, Mr Torn Johnson (Dundee) gave notice to ask the Home Secretary (Sir TVni. .Toyii'On Hicks) today whether lie was aware that two police officers on May 15th. called at the place of business of Miss Savage, without affording her an opportunity to communicate: with, her parents or her legal advisers, motored her to Scotland Yard, where she was questioned for five hours in connection with the inquiry which is being held into the case in which Sir Leo Chiozza •Money was charged with indecency in Tivde Park.
Miss Savage’s father told the Daily Express that it is true that the police called at the firm where his daughter is ■employed, and asked her to go to Scotland Yard where she was detained fog live hours, during which a short cross-examination occurred, for which she was not prepared. He was not ready to disclose the details, as the matter was now in the hands of the family solicitors.
