THE NEW CAR. For many years Ford lias' been exploring new paths in metallurgy. The enormous resources of the Ford manufacture have enabled experiments to be conducted on a prodigious scale. One of the earliest successes along these lines was the single run blast furnace. In the Ford factory arc the only blast furnaces which refine ore through all its processes in one furnace to the finished cylinder block casting. The size and cost of the experiments to produce these results are possible only to the Ford factory, which is alone in this achievement. Following this, Ford has experimented as a manufacturing process with the largest electric-arc steel furnaces in the world. For three years now. Ford has been developing the manufacture of large all-metal aeroplanes. These are used in the United States for the carriage ol mails and passengers. This work has been a continuous experiment, and development in steel construe!ion, combining lightness and sure strength to the utmost degree. From these years of experiment and development emerge the full utilisation in motor car inanulaeture of electric-welding of steel.
