While a goods train was proceeding through the Otira Tunnel yesterday morning a portion of the overhead electrical equipment attached to' the tunnel came adrift with the result that the train as held up for some considerable time, and through traffic was delayed until the repairs were effected. 1 he Christchurch express was delayed only for a few minutes owing to the mishap.

A prosecution under a little known section of the Stamp Duties Act took place in the Police Court at Dunedin on Monday! when L. S. Kerens was charged with having made a valuation of slock and chattels, and with having within fourteen days thereafter neglected to write it out in words and figures showing the amount id the valuation on duty stamped material. The evidence showed that an agreement fui 1 sale and purchase was made on April Util. D>27. Defendant was engaged to value stock in connection with the sale, but failed to make a certificate on a stamped document until April 30th. 1028. it was not a serious breach, and the Dipartment wished the proceedings to serve as a warning. A tine of 10s and costs was. imposed.
