KUMARA PRESBYTERY
OPENED BY BISHOP BRODIE. At the conclusion of the confirmation service at St. Patrick's Church, on Sunday, at Kumara, Bishop Brodie performed the ceremony of openins the new Presbytery. A large gathering was present for the event, cx-rcsidents of Kumara, from Ooldsbornugh, Stafford and Greymovitli nsse.mhling for the occasion. Ilev. Father Lordan. in his introductory remarks, referred to the fact that the new Presbytery bad been built and completed at tlie cost of only £530. The few pounds necessary to pay off the total debt. Father Berdan ventured to exnfe-s, would be accounted for tlmt day.— It was so. The Mayor of Kumara (Mr A. ii. Spier-) congratulated llm congregu(ion of St. l\n rick's Church upon tin ir enthusiasm, and Ealliew l.ord ’ii. in particular, for undertaking the construction of the Presbytery. Air Sodden. ALP.. slated that, in building a new borne for the priest at Kumara. the people bad. expressed their optimism in the future of Kumara and their faith in the old town. Tie recalled the memory of previous parish priests fn Kumara who had worked nobly for the place and bad let! behind an undying remembrance.
Bishop Brodie. in congratulating the congregation ol Bt. Patrick s Church, upon tli-'ii- xuevivs in carrying out such an undcriaking as the construction of 11c new Presbytery, stated that having built such a home for £530. the people of Kumara had helped to solve the housing problem. Tf such a building could be built at such a. low cost, legislators in studying the housing question. had got something which set them seriously to think. His Lordship explained why ho personally had liocui moved to donate a larger amount to Kumara. than was his usual custom. The large concourse of people present listened with rapt attention to IT is Lordship’s interesting pastoral address. Mr Jack- Gilbert spoke of the history of the movement Jo build a new presbytery, and Air Burrell about whom complimentary remarks were made, also replied.
The ladies of the congregation supplied the visitors with tea.
