The Protestant Reformation Society strongly criticised the Archbishop of Canterbury for delaying the publication of the Maline’s Conversations until the Revised Prayer Book liad been submitted to Parliament, thereby subjecting the Anglican Church to unnecessary and unwise humiliation. The conversations Were a sinister attempt to unite Anglican arid Roman Catholic Churches at the cost of the spiritual truth, historical .ami racy, spm'itnnH ami civil liberty which the Prayer Book was calculated to facilitate. Sir John Haslain, a member of the Church Assembly, speaking at the Society’s Annual Meeting, said:—i “We were told to accept the Prayer Book because the Bishops had been working thereon for twenty years."
