ASH BURTON MEETING

ASHBURTON, May 12
Tlie Ashburton County Club’s races were held in ideal weather, resulting in a large attendance. The course was excellent. The tote took £10,335, as against £IO,B-14 for eight races last year.
In tlie preliminary of the Trial Plate, a stable hoy was put oil Bon Raid, but was unseated, being stunned for a time. The horse bolted twice round the course before it was stopped, and did not start in tlie race. Shortly after the start of the Trial Plate, Star Stranger 11. fell, and the rider (A. E. Ellis) was taken to the hospital, suffering from severe concussion and probably internal! injuries. Results:—
Longheadi Hack.—(7) Crossbow f, (11) Philanderer 2, (6) Despot 3. Won by a neck; a head and a neck. Time 1.11 1-5.
Selma Trot.—(l) Travis Axworthy 1, (i) Royal Loeanda 2, (2) Danny Boy 3. Won "by a length ; eight lengths. Time 3.33 2-5.
Autumn Handicap.—(2) Thorndale 1, (4) Tintoretto 2, (3) Carnot 3. Won by half a length; a length. Time Trial Plate.—(3) Red Jazz 1, (5) Despot 2, (1.) Waihomo 3. A neck each way.. Time 1.1 1-5. Eiffclton Hack.—(l) Alalmscy 1, (2) Lancer 2. (5) Amor 3. Won by two lengths; the same. Time 1.403. Rakaia Trot.—(l) Audubon Lad 1, (3) Forward Maid 2, (2) Fair Dillon 3. Won by three lengths; four lengths. Time 2.20 4-5.
Farewell Handicap.—(l) .Gay Sonnet 1, (9) Gold Alint 2, (3) Zaragoza 3. Won by a bead ; two lengths. Time 1.26 2-5.
EG MONT MEETING. RAWER A, May 12. The Egniont Racing Club’s winter meeting was concluded to-day in beautiful weather before another large attendance. The tracks wore in good condition. The totalisator handled £21,100), compared with £17,592 on the second day last year, and for the two days the total was £39,455), an increase- of £4,631) on last year. During the running of the Adamson Steeplechase, C. Taggart, rider of Comical, sustained a broken collar bone as the result of a fall at the post and rails, six furlongs from home. The same obstacle brought down Radiate, his rider, P. Ilolman, escaping with a. severe bruising. Ngamuki Hack.—(B) Afonsognc 1, (l) Desert Lad 2, (fi) Qrcadcs 3. AYon by half a head ; half a length. Time 1.15.
Alanawapou Hurdles.—(4) AVcnday 1, (1) V fixations 2, (6) Troilus 3. Won by half a length ; four lengths. Time 2.48. '
Adamson Steeples.—(l) Puwliero 1, (1) San Fern 2, (5) Soil o’ Aline 3. AYon by three lengths; ten lengths. Time 5.2. Afokoia Handicap.—(2) Pnrtaga 1, (5) Melissa 2, (1) Broad Acre 3. AVon hv a short head ; two lengths. Time I.M). : Shorts Hack Handicap.—(7) Segment 1. (3) Le Champ 2. (10) Tangcrini 3. Won by a head; half a length. Time 1.13.
