AMERICAN NEWS
Australian Press Assn.—United Service U.S. POLITICS. (Received this day at 9.30 a.m). WASHINGTON, May 12. Representative Cellar introduced a resolution into the House of Representatives declaring against a third term for any president. Cellor said the failure of the present incumbent of White .House to state, unequivocally his position and that he would not even bo a “drafter” is an occasion that compels the passage of the resolution. NEW YORK. May 12.
News from Philadelphia states that Mr Mellon to-day approved of the candidacy nl Mr Hoover in a statement before Pennsylvanian delegates to a Republican National Convention. He stated: “ Hoover seems to come closest to the standard that wo set for this high office. I. recommend that we hold ourselves pledged and uncommitted to any particular candidate so that when we meet in Kansas City bclore the Convention, we will have the fullest liberty of choice to do as is best for the nation.”
This statement is taken by Hoovers friends as virtually a recognition of Hoover as a logical successor to f oolidge and that .Mellon, who is a figure of vast political influence, is now convinced neither Mr CoolhTgc nor the ox-Scc-ie-tary of State. Mr Hughes, is in the nomination race. A claim was e\eu made that-this assures 1 Hoover's nomination on the first ballot hut while it is a distinct gain for Hoover, Indiana primaries have apparently lessened the possibility of Hoover’s choice by acclaim at Kansas City.
