There is considerable activity among Sydney communists, organising women into bodies known as women’s militant groups, the idea being ter encourage husbands ..to remain on strike until demands are conceded. It is stated women must he taught to overlook privation in,times of conflict, and thereby become a groat driving force in the achievement of, their objectives.
A GREEN DIAMOND. SYDNEY, May 12. A rare gem. namely, a green diamond, .whereof only two or three are in the world, was discovered in an antique shop in Sydney and was acquired by a large firm of jewellers for fifteen shillings. The shopkeeper was unaware of the true value, which is about £2OO sterling.

A message from Daytona Reach, Florida, says that State Republicans (b'ave instructed Hum' deli patch ■Rcr Hoover at the National Convention. A message from Nashville, Tennessee, states twenty-four delegates to the National Convention have been instructed to vote for Representative Cordell Hull, of Tennessee, “until chances of nomination cease to be hopeful.” Hull"* victory lias been won only after a bitter fight with Smith’s supporters, and is regarded as having little ■significance, since his chances of nomination are nil. Obituary.—William Young Dennett, aged 83. a prominent resident of Hastings and Napier for over sixty years. Deceased came to Hastings fifty years ago, and took an active part in public life being mayor for five years and the holder of many other public offices. He took part in the Maori War with the Napier military.
