EDUCATIONAL. _ WELLINGTON, May 11. In his address at the annual conference of Secondary Schools Association, the Director of Education, Mr Strong, said the statement that the Department had decided to abolish junior high schools was incorrect. It was intended only to do away with separate schools. 'Hie Government intended to supply more post primary schools and engage more teachers in order that the size of classes might he cut down. It was intended to utilise primary schools for portion of post-primary work.
AGED .MINISTER RETIRES. DUNEDIN, May 11
At the ago of 93, Dean Fitehett, who retires from the incumbency of All Saints’ Church after 50 years in that post, received a substantial cheque from his parishioners. A remarkable testimony to his unimpaired activity was the fact that on the piano, at the function. lie played the difficult " Poet anti Peasant ” overture.
A CORRECTION. WELLINGTON, May 11
The accidental dropping of a line in the telegram on Wednesday night altered (lie effect of the resolution passed by the New Zealand Educational Instilule on Bihie-iii-.Scliools. The message should have read, by a large majority the annual conference of the New Zealand Fdueational Institute carried a remit to the effect that the introduction of Bible-leading into primary schools, under the direction of teachers was not desirable.

Following the annual meeting of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society last night, the incoming Council of the Society will act oil the following resolution in regard to the netting of salmon in the \Yaimakariri: —
