Crustaceans found in the stomach of the groper and sent by Mr Hansen of Ivaikoura, to Canterbury Museum, have puzzled students of that class of creatures. The forms have not been recorded in New Zealand previously, and the literature of crustaceans available in New Zealand does not describe them. Dr C'. Chilton, of Nelson, tile highest authority in New Zealand and Australia on crustaceans, never saw them before the specimens were sent to him for Identification. The groper was caught in 00 fathoms. As the 100 fathom line comes close to the shore at Kaikoura, fishermen there take many deep-sea .forms of fishes, and it is thought that the specimens are deep-sea forms of crustaceans.
